Craigsnumber Fills a Nice Void

Here is one from the feed reader. This is a great concept dubbed craigsnumber. In short, the service offers auto expiring, free anonymous phone numbers. A very simple service that fills a nice void in online safety and an effective way to filter calls for classifieds or any online listings.

The service just went live and is incredibly simple to use. You can even pick the city you want a local number in, currently they are supporting 12 major markets in the US. The system generates a number, gives you an extension, you then tell it where to route your calls to and when you want the number to expire (1 hour, 1 day or 1 week), and your done. Each number is unique and will never be reused according to the company’s fact sheet.

    That’s a really cool service. Thanks for highlighting it, Greg. I came across a similar service for e-mail addresses called Ten Minute Mail (http://10minutemail.com/10MinuteMail/index.html) that gives you a temporary e-mail address for (you guessed it) 10 minutes. This allows you to receive e-mail confirmations for online accounts without having to expose your personal e-mail account to parties unknown.

    It’s an interesting trend of simlpe yet powerful tools to bolster online anonymity and identity protection.

    I have set new rules with my daughter (12):
    She can invite calls on MySpace only with craigsnumber.

    Insanity is hereditary. You inherit it from your kids :-)
