iPods: Shift To Personalized Media
USA TODAY reports on the way that iPods are shifting the media landscape by creating “personalized media.” There is no doubt that iPods represent the first BIG movement towards the “media on demand” culture that is emerging as a result of the new widely adapted technology. As a recent iPod purchaser, I can honestly say that creating the “soundtrack of my life” is truly a subjective and addictive practice. Shit, I am even thinking about a Powerbook now, their marketing strategy must be working!

“This is all part of the shift from mass media to personalized media,” says Paul Saffo, research director of The Institute for the Future, a tech think tank in Palo Alto, Calif. “With the iPod, the Buddha is in the details. The finish and feel are such that you want to caress it.”
