Smart People Make You Think

September 20, 2005 – 5:25 pm

Today, I would like to point you to a couple of great reads. Peter Cooper originally blogged about Ben Neumann, urging folks to check out his new weblog “Views From The Trenches.” Ben, who is currently the President & CEO of Globat, has started and sold many successful companies, and therefore has a wealth of experience to share on his blog. The name is perfectly fitting for a man with such experiences. This is some of the best business blogging I have read in a while, I always enjoy when my fellow entrepreneurs put it out on the line and say it like it is :-) I am almost inspired to start writing my own essays about my own experiences in business, something I haven’t done quite yet. You can check out Ben’s bio here. There are two posts that I found very inspirational as an entrepreneur who is continually trying to improve and better myself and my company. If you have your own business or are even thinking of starting your own company these are great reads that will get you thinking:

“May I be frank” and the power of candor

“Candor will save you many empty miles, lots of disappointments, even more money and could, last but certainly not least, make the difference between an endless cycle of struggle and failure and a very successful and striving company.”

Mediocrity, the root of many evils (not just in software development)

“When small men attempt great enterprises, they always end by reducing them to the level of their mediocrity.” - Napoleon Bonaparte

Check out Ben’s essays and let me know your thoughts.
