We’ve Acquired RSSFWD

May 17, 2007 – 2:00 pm

Today, at Blue Sky Factory we announced that we have acquired RSSFWD (www.rssfwd.com). For those of you who aren’t familiar with RSSFWD, it is a web based service that allows anyone to subscribe to any RSS feed via their email address. An example is on the side bar of this blog. The press release that went out today can be found here.

I am very excited about the acquisition. We have been sponsoring the hosting for RSSFWD for almost a year now and over this time I have had the opportunity to get to know its creator and developer Choon Keat. He is an incredible programmer who will remain on board as the primary developer, and continue to maintain and build out new features for both users and publishers.

RSSFWD currently has 30,000 unique and active users, polls around 32,000 unique RSS feeds and sends roughly 4mm emails per month to opt-in subscribers of RSS syndicated content. The service has grown 470% since its launch.

I wrote an article on RSS to Email as a growing industry trend that will be coming out in our monthly newsletter. Here I give additional perspective on my views around RSS to Email and how we plan on incorporating RSSFWD into our offerings. More to follow.

  2. Was it expensive? We seem to live in an era of expensive acquisitions, so Im curious.

  3. Financial terms were not disclosed, sorry Mark, I wish I could say more. I can tell you that the deal was a win win for both parties and we look forward to growing out the features and functionality of the application for users and publishers.
