Tsunami Donation Toll

This is a great link to make a donation to the Tsunami relief effort. So far it looks like Americans have donated almost $3.5 million.

Podcasting Get Up

Well folks, I gotta tell ya, I have been more than impressed with podcasting as an evolving media form. So much in fact that I have decided to start my very own podcast called "Trend Radio." The show will be produced on a "go with the flow" basis, nothing formal here..... yet :-)

The last few weeks have been very productive in getting "Trend Radio" going. I successfully set up a pretty decent (I must say) podcasting studio. Below is a break out of my entire "get up" for any of you out there who are interested in learning how to podcast or are just curious as to what is involved. I was looking online just the other night and found barely ANY resources out there (I admit I did not spend a LOT of time looking), although I am sure there are plenty. Needless to say, this cant hurt ;-)

The Get Up:

Microphone: Shure SM57 (Goose neck mike stand)
Headphones: Koss Pro 3AA Titaniums (any decent headphones will do)
Mixer: Tascam Portastudio 424 mkII (used only for mixing multiple audio sources)
Input: External Creative Sound Blaster (USB)
Software: MediaSource (Creative)
File Output: MP3 192kbps

Please note there are MANY ways in terms of gear and equipment to create quality podcasts, this is only the route I chose to go for now as I had most of the gear already. If you are starting out - I would recommend you just use software and a decent microphone and headphones.

In the spirit of effort, I humbly place the link to my first podcasting attempt. (MP3 format - 4 min)

Comments welcome.

I will be posting the first edition of Trend Radio soon.

Another Trippy Find

This is a pretty wild 3D visualization piece. Check it out.

Post Office Cameras

I wonder how long this has been happening - apparently every person who uses a post office kiosk is photographed by a camera - its also tied into the transaction so if the camera is covered then the transaction cannot be completed. Interesting post on Boing.

This is a funny Sony ad - beware of the webcam! - per theGoose

Blogger Interrupted

I haven't been able to post to thetrendjunkie.com from Blogger in over 24 hours. I had switched back to posting to blogspot so I could post a message on the old URL about the new URL. When I switched my settings back to post to my own server, Blogger gave me nothing but an error message, telling me that my FTP server could not be found. However now, 24 hours later, it looks like we are back up and running.

Now back to posting....

Podcasting Movement

I have been keeping an eye on the podcasting revolution. I am fascinated by it, and believe its going to be very BIG in due time. Adam Curry, yeah you remember him from MTV you peeps in your late 20-s and 30's, spearheaded this into popularity. Now, even though podcasting has been around for a "little" while, (so have weblogs and RSS), its only now that this is getting interesting. First, a definition of podcasting can be found here. Second, you have to jump in and check some of them out - this is the evolving participatory media unfolding in front of you. Keep your eye on this. In the meantime, I am planning on starting a Trend Junkie podcast in the future - I will keep you posted.

A Fine, Fine Brew

Ah yes, its that time of year again. Its Samichlaus Bier time, the absolute "strongest lager beer in the world". This fine beer is brewed once a year on December 6th in Brewery Castle Eggenberg, Austria, and then aged for 10-11 months before shipping. This is definitely a "sipping beer" at 14% alcohol, you have to go easy. I just picked up 7 12 oz bottles of the 2003 vintage at $4 a bottle, the best price I have come across yet. Usually these fine brews are between $5-6. Tis that time of year to enjoy the Samichlaus!

Bust the Beat

This is awesome. Its a flash project with your choice of an old school, or new school style turntable set up. Totally cool stuff.

THIS is even cooler - I dig Phonatix the most! Have fun kids!

Feed Update

The feed is back up! Another minor glitch in the transition, but we are fully rocking and rolling again. Sorry for those of you who read Trend Junkie solely through your RSS readers, you should see the latest batch of oh maybe 10 - 13 postings now. Enjoy!

Photo / Images Update

Quick update, aside from losing most of the comments on this weblog after my transition to the Haloscan commenting tool, I have also found that as a result of moving to my own host, all of the links to Blogger hosted images have been zapped. Just an FYI that these will be fixed shortly, some of those images are key!

How to Value Wine

Presurfer lead me to this post. Its all about how to value a bottle of wine, very cool! I have to admit as a Wino that this is pretty interesting. I have some wine expert friends that I will run this by, but essentially, the key here is that the bigger the dimple at the bottom of the bottle, the more expensive the wine is. Check out the post - this has gone from being a rumor to fact based on a study done by the author.

Wing Women

I cant remember where I read about this originally, but Presurfer pulled it together on his blog last week. I am talking about the Wing Woman concept. These are women who can be hired to help men attract other women. You know, they will play the field a little for you and make the introduction, and all that. Pretty wild. Check out their site.

Cool Digital Toy

Check this out. I would assume if you are into electronica (in all its forms), or perhaps possessed some of your own DJ abilities, you wound find this sound mixing tool to be useful or very entertaining, I sure do. A little confusing if your not familiar with sound mixing, etc. but definitely worth checking out.

Trend Junkie Has NEW Web Domain

Hi All!! As you probably know by now, The Trend Junkie has its own domain, and has officially graduated from the Blogspot hosting service!

Welcome to thetrendjunkie.com

During the transition I seemed to have lost all of the old comments as a result of republishing my entire blog with the Haloscan commenting code installed. I am working on a way to get it back. In the meantime, they are all still accessible at http://trendjunkie.blogspot.com

It feels much better to be posting to an independent domain :-)

ASCII Art

This is a cool site, Ascii Babes. Its text renditions of famous women. Oddly enough, I found it while reading a post on Boing Boing about how porn spammers are reverting back to the raw ASCII text format due to the fact that new email clients like Gmail are blocking all external images. Hence, they use ASCII text to portray the message. See example below:

I guess these people will try anything to get their message across!

Damn, Rough Landing!

Beer Radio :-)

Check this out - Beer Radio, yes all beer, all the time. The official site is www.beerradio.com, and this is NO joke. The show got picked up by Sirius satellite network in July and is apparently soaring. As a fond lover of fine beers, I am all about it. Enjoy!

"Join Big Don O'Brien; the voice of Beer Radio as he takes his love and passion for beer to a 50,000 watt blowtorch. Tune in and rip out the knob! Beer Radio is on the air for a full 2 Hours!"

Boobies for Peace

This absolutely cracks me up. Its the one and only "Boobies for Peace" Advent calendar. You gotta love it! Check out number 12 and 24 :-)

New Commenting Script

In an effort to add some new commenting functionality, it looks like I lost all the comments from the posts on the main page of this blog. However, Flip your my most frequent "commenter" and I hear ya brother. I just installed Haloscan as you can see by the message below. Should be fun :-)

Haloscan commenting and trackback have been added to this blog.

$10,000.00 Martini?

You know it, and only in New York. Thats right, apparently at the famed Algonquin hotel in NYC, they offer a $10,000 martini:

"The landmark hotel, where famed wit Dorothy Parker and fellow literary lights at the Round Table imbibed, offers a $10,000 martini, complete with a loose diamond at the bottom."

Cereality? whoa....

My man Sean dug this one up. What the hell is this? A new grub spot where they let you pick various cereals and they mix them for you into a "chinese food" container box. This is a weird one.

"Blog" Is Top Word of the Year
